The unlikely partners -- Samherji is one of Iceland’s largest fishery groups while New Brunswick, Canada-based Cooke specializes in salmon farming -- now own a “significant” stake in Newfound Resources Ltd. (NRL), which harvests shrimp off the Atlantic coast.

While Samherji has a history of expanding globally, the deal marks the first time Cooke Aquaculture ventures into wild catch.

The investment “is a good fit with our aquaculture business” as “both our sectors make significant contributions to the social and economic wellbeing of Atlantic Canada’s coastal communities,” Cooke told IntraFish.
