Cooke, the New Brunswick, Canada-based family-owned salmon producer, is not giving up on its long-term plan to acquire Clearwater, said Nell Halse, the company's vice president of communications.

This is despite clear opposition from Clearwater’s majority shareholders, Colin MacDonald and John Risley, who founded the fishing business in 1976.

Speaking to IntraFish, MacDonald pointed out that Cooke’s approach was so far only a non-binding offer. However, Cooke is most serious about its intentions, Halse said.

“We spent over six months evaluating this opportunity and have dedicated significant internal and external resources and engaged financial and legal advisors.
