”Where European consumers are concerned, aquaculture is very new to them,” Brunso said.
Surveys on the subject were carried out in Spain, Belgium, Holland, Poland and Denmark.
Brunso said aquaculture is bound to grow significantly in the seafood industry, and there is a need for more research on how European consumers perceive farmed fish.
” Consumers have the impression that wild fish are about freedom and happiness, but farmed fish are perceived as being weaker in meat texture,” Brunso said.
As more people try farmed fish they will understand that it is healthy to eat, she said.
