The Marine Stewardship Council (MSC) can benefit from the loss of "problematic fisheries," a biologist said.
On Tuesday Alaska's top suppliers announced that they were pulling support for the Marine Stewardship Council's (MSC) eco-certification and would not opt to undergo re-certification.
Watershed Watch Salmon Society biologist Aaron Hill told IntraFish that he can see the positive in the move.
Watershed has long questioned the Alaska salmon fisheries.
Hill thinks it is no coincidence that the announcement came soon after the group, along with Oregon's Wild Salmon Center and Washington state's Wild Fish Conservancy said they would be "very actively engaging in the MSC's re-certification process and opposing the re-certification of some of the more problematic Alaskan salmon fisheries."
"The
