Clover Leaf Seafoods Co. executive vice-president and managing director, said in an e-mailed statement to the New Brunswick Business Journal the firm's Asian competitors have lower labor costs and that challenges with fish supply were at play as well in prompting the cuts.
"Our main competitive threat is labor costs and the conversion differential between Blacks Harbour and the Asian imports," Schindler said of the move, which the firm labels a restructuring of its operations.
