The CAD $3.6 million ($3.5 million/€2.7 million) project is being funded in part by a $1.2 million ($1.17 million/€904,260) grant received this week from the federal government. The rest of the money is coming from company owner Paul Merlin and other investors, he told IntraFish on Wednesday.
The company presently produces about 100 metric tons of halibut and Arctic char and says the new facility – to be built next to its present building at Advocate Harbor – will allow it to double output and reduce the time it takes to grow the halibut.
