Last month, the US Senate passed a bill ensuring shrimp is included in the Seafood Import Monitoring Program (SIMP). Originally it was included, but was to be implemented at a later date.

SIMP will go into effect Jan. 1 and requires importers to record and report specific data from the point of harvest to point of entry into the US marketplace. This affects only imported seafood named on an initial list identified as vulnerable to IUU fishing and/or seafood fraud.
