Companies have been hit hard. Concepcion, the second largest city in Chile, was among the most-damaged areas, as the epicenter of the earthquake was 90 kilometers away.
Most of Chile’s fishing companies are located in the Concepcion area, including Pesquera Bio Bio, Food Corp and El Golfo.
Communications with most of the area have collapsed, as it is still without any electric power, which has hampered contact with those who live and work in the area. Cell phone batteries have run dead and the landline network is inoperative.
