Icelandic catches were valued at ISK 144 billion (€926.3 million/$1.3 billion) between January and November last year, according to Statistics Iceland, a drop of 4.70 percent compared with the same period in 2012.

Cod is easily the most valuable segment of the Icelandic fleet’s landings, accounting for ISK 43.40 billion (€279.2 million/$383.2 million), roughly half of the total groundfish catch valued at ISK 85 billion (€546.8 million/$750.6 million), although cod values dropped by 5.40 percent compared with a year ago.

Values of haddock, flatfish and redfish also fell compared with 2012, although deep sea redfish catch values rose by 8 percent and the saithe catch increased value by 5.20
