The low cod prices over the past couple of years have finally pushed up demand for the fish and given way for suppliers to open up more markets and gain new segments, industry players told IntraFish.

“The low price on cod only had one effect – everything was sold. Which means cod is still in demand,” said Birgir Bjarnason, general manager of Icelandic trading firm Islenska.

“Basically you could say the price went too low last year and therefore it will inevitably come back up."
