As traders struggled to sell such large volumes, IntraFish expects average prices to be around NOK24.08 (€2.97/$3.96) over the next week – a fall of NOK0.47 (€0.05/$0.07) on the previous seven days.

The past week’s price level was expected to be maintained but the larger volumes prevented this.

“One of the reasons for the price development this week seems to be the large quantities that have been slaughtered and decreasing demand in Eastern Europe,” Trond Sjoholt at Bodo-based Polar Quality said.

Norwegian Seafood Federation (FHL) figures put slaughter at 15,000 tons last week- the highest in one week sor far in 2007.
