Trade Commissioner Peter Mandelson previously warned EU countries that wanted to introduce import quotas on clothes from China, as this could lend up with consumers paying a higher price for clothes. Maybe there is a chance he will also have the consumers’ best interests in mind this fall when negotiations commence on the new salmon agreement with Norway.
The EU trade commissioner had to thereby acknowledge it was a mistake to introduce these import quotas in order to protect the European Union's own textile manufacturers against cheaper and superior-quality clothing produced in China.
