The Chinese Ministry of Commerce criticized US investigations into Chinese shrimp exports, branding it a violation of World Trade Organization (WTO) rules, reported People's Daily Online.

A ministry spokesperson said the United States is classifying China as a non-market economy, adding there is no good evidence to justify such an investigation.

This follows the launch of shrimp countervailing duty investigations by the US International Trade Commission (ITC) and the US Department of Commerce earlier this year.

Chinese exporter Guolian Aquatic has hired a panel of lawyers to challenge the investigation, reported  People's Daily Online.
