Chile shipped 22.8 million kilograms of fresh farmed Atlantic salmon fillets, down 32.1 percent from the 33.6 million kilos sent in the first five months of 2008. The value of the 2009 shipments is $181.2 million (€129.9 million), a 29.2 percent drop from the year-earlier period.
Norway boosted its fresh fillet exports to the United States from one million kilos in 2008 to six million kilos from Jan. 1 through May 31, according to numbers put out Friday by the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS).
