The blockage of salmon exports from the Chile's Chiloe island, which holds two-thirds of all salmon processing plants in Chile, continued and drew more support Friday as government authorities refused fishermen’s demands to compensate them for lost fishing time from a new algal bloom.
On Monday, artisanal fishermen affected by a new algae bloom detected near the Chiloe coast blockaded salmon exports from leaving the island, alleging the salmon industry caused the new bloom by dumping dead salmon into the water earlier this year.
