The US market for Chilean seabass could be in flux soon as importers weigh whether to continue importing the highly regulated fish into the United States in the wake of a government shutdown.

Entering day six of the shutdown, it’s unclear if the Dissostichus Catch Documents (DCD), the paperwork required to bring Chilean seabass into the United States, are being processed with so many employees from the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) on furlough.

“I’m not panicked yet," Mike Rainvelle, sales representative at Kendell Seafood Imports, told IntraFish.
