The “Union es Fuerza” union of Cultivos Marinos and the National Confederation of Salmon Industry Workers (CONATRASAL) organized the protest to pressure the government to give concrete and appropriate answers to the announcement of more layoffs in the salmon industry.
John Hurtado, president of the union of Cultivos Marinos, said the “workers are concerned about the lack of support from the authorities, who decided to transfer $450 million (€348 million) via bank guarantees to salmon companies, but so far they haven’t given any clear answers to the petitions of unemployed workers.
