The protesters demanded “somebody be accountable for the 4,000 workers who have lost their jobs so far ever since a sanitary crisis was declared in the sector due to the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus.”
Javier Ugarte, president of the National Confederation of Salmon Industry Workers (CONATRASAL), who arrived from Chiloe with a group of workers to lead the march, said workers are asking government authorities to indemnify workers laid off with study scholarships, loans to create small businesses and training workshops, among other things.
