Chile’s salmon exports saw a market expansion over the last 10 years, with Russia and Brazil joining the United States and Japan as main importers of the product, reports Economia y Negocios.

While fresh and frozen salmon exports to Brazil in 2015 were more than five times higher than a decade earlier, Russia imports of Chilean salmon multiplied 10 times over the period.

According to Felipe Manterola, general manager at SalmoChile, this increase of exports to Brazil is due to the demographic position of the country, with Sao Paulo hosting one of the biggest Japanese communities in the world, increasing the number of Japanese restaurants and the demand of sushi products in the country.
