Aquinor del Norte S.A. began planting fingerlings in August, and has set up a system where the fry are constantly being produced. The company’s new hatchery, about 1,000 kilometers in a desert area north of Chile’s capital, Santiago, is capable of producing two million fingerlings a year, Hatchery Manager Daniel Elton told IntraFish.
The company chose the desert region for its hatchery because the warmer water temperatures there, about 18 to 19 degrees Celsius, are perfect for rearing yellowtail kingfish (Seriola lalandi).
