The production drop is being blamed on the industry's efforts to comat the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) virus, which has impacted more than 140 of Chile's 827 salmon farms.
The current economic situation will start to return to normal in 18 months, and the industry will get back to the historical production levels, Barros said Thursday.
“During this time, the lower salmon supply for processing and higher company costs will entail lower revenues, which could lead to temporary adjustments in the industry,” Barros said.
