Chile's department of fisheries and aquaculture (Sernapesca) will impose stringent new regulations on salmon production, reducing both density and numbers of fish based on the performance of sites in the past farming period.

Matias Medina, managing director at SalmonChile science arm Intesal, told IntraFish the new regulations tighten the already strict veterinary regime Sernapesca overhauled in 2009-2010 following the wake of the infectious salmon anemia (ISA) outbreak.

Two new amendments to the existing sanitary and veterinary health regulations will impact both individual site production of companies, as well as the broader performance of all companies’ operations in a single neighborhood.
