Chile has been awarded 66 percent of the global quota for jack mackerel in the South Pacific region, the equivalent of 290,000 metric tons, in 2014.
The latest meeting of the Comision de la Organizacion Regional de Pesca del Pacifico Sur (ORP- Pacifico Sur/ South Pacific RFMO) which decides on the quotas took place last week in Ecuador.
The Commission approved the recommendation of the Scientific Committee meeting in October 2013 in La Jolla, United States , regarding the capture of jack mackerel throughout in the South Pacific should not exceed 440,000 metric tons.
