With prices for farmed coho in freefall, Chilean companies have to take action and find ways to sell the product to new markets.

Chile ramped up coho production as demand from Japan increased, following the tsunami and the earthquake in March 2011.

Ventisqueros, a Chilean farmer integrated into processing, plans to sell a portion of its farmed coho into the US market.

"We are in the same trap as all the companies," said Andres Fletcher, CEO of the company. "We made a mistake and misjudged the demand in Japan caused by the tsunami and earthquake.”
