The industry needs the changes in the General Fisheries and Aquaculture Law to reform how it grows fish by employing a "neighborhood" system of farming clusters, and for other changes approved by a roundtable panel to help the industry recover from infectious salmon anemia (ISA) and other problems.

Lawmakers from the Chamber of Deputies were scheduled to vote April 29 on the proposal, but delayed the vote after a presentation made by Labor Undersecretary Mauricio Jelvez, in which he outlined the measures adopted by the government to mitigate unemployment affecting Region 10 due to the salmon industry crisis.

One
