Salmon eggs are among Icelandic products that have been suspended from import to Chile by Sernapesca. However, Benchmark Holdings, which owns Stofnfiskur, believes trading will resume before the end of the year.

Iceland’s Marine Research Institute has detected viral hemorrhagic septicemia virus (VHSV) on wild-catch lumpfish that were intended to be used as brood fish for farming of cleaner fish, sparking the move.

As a precautionary measure the Chilean fisheries directorate temporarily suspended all import of aquatic biological products from Iceland.

Stofnfiskur, which has its base on Iceland, is part of the breeding and genetics section of Benchmark Holdings.
