Fish prices are down across the board, said Yves Foezon of Brittany Producers Organization, Union Pecheurs Manche Atlantique (PMA).
This year he says the demand for hake has virtually disappeared with low-cost imports from South America flooding the market.
Recovery measures for the hake stock in the Bay of Biscay over the past few years appear to have been highly successful as fishermen report never having seen so much hake on their fishing grounds, he said.
"But there is no market for it," he said.
