The deal will allow Moody to expand its certification services, with a focus on doing more chain-of-custody certifications to go along with its fisheries assessments, Paul Knapman, North America regional manager for Moody's, told IntraFish on Thursday.
TAVEL conducts fisheries certifications and chain-of-custody certifications for the MSC. "The intention is to expand chain-of-custody certifcations," said Knapman. "In North America, Moody has in the past focused on fisheries certifications, while TAVEL has done fisheries and chain-of-custody. We’d like to expand that."
TAVEL will retain its name and staff during a transition period, Knapman said
"With these things, a quick name change can confuse people," he said, adding all customers have been notifed and assured their certifications will be completed by the same people now conducting them.
