Chile’s Punta de Arenas Court has ruled in favor of salmon farmer Cermaq against two offenders who attempted to steal 500 trout on Nov. 6, 2015.
The offenders were the driver of a Cermaq lorry that was transferring the fish on a delivery route and his accomplice. They were intercepted after stealing 500 trout from the truck.
The offenders face a fine of 40 UTM, or CLP1.8 million (€2,571/$2,938).
“As a company we have the strong conviction that any theft, independently of the amount it involves, must be chased and the perpetrators must be judged and punished,” said Francisco Miranda, general manager of Cermaq Chile.
