Cermaq’s new smolt facility at Steigen in Nordland County has been granted a permit to produce 8.4 million smolt annually, which will cover the company’s requirements for smolt in the counties of Finnmark and Nordland.
Though the permit initially allows for production of up to 8.4 million smolt annually, Cermaq has plans for more capacity in the future.
According to Avisa Nordland, the facility would have the capacity to increase production to 12 million smolt per annum.
