Singapore-based surimi producer Thong Siek, which produces mostly fish balls, is diversifying into canned fish luncheon after test launching the product this year, its marketing manager Novelle Lim told IntraFish.

Fish is a healthier option for canned protein, and it is a good replacement for meat, Lim said.

While she declined to reveal what types of species they use for their fish luncheon range, she said the surimi used for the fish are also easier to source for because of the wider range of species it accepts for fish luncheon as compared to its fish balls.
