Canada-based seafood supplier Toppits has provided fish and shellfish for foodservice and retail buyers for decades, but now the Ontario company wants to try its hand at dealing with consumers directly.
Three years ago, Toppits moved into a new facility in Vaughan, Ontario, that offered enough room on the building's ground floor "to build both our Culinary Inspiration Centre and also a retail market," Brandon Gremont, the vice-president of procurement, told Seafood International.
The "culinary inspiration center" is essentially a large gourmet kitchen facility, where Toppits, a company that prides itself on its innovative products, does new product demonstrations for its foodservice and retail customers. The retail market, however, allows the company to test these products in a true seafood retail format.
