The licenses in question are for farming in St. Mary’s Bay near Digby, western Nova Scotia.
Cooke has six farms in Nova Scotia and first applied for the St Mary’s Bay licenses two years ago, Cooke’s communications vice president said.
“It’s been a long process, but the decision was finally made yesterday [Wednesday] and we received the authorization of the federal and provincial governments,” Nell Halse told IntraFish.
“We think there’s a huge opportunity for aquaculture there and we can provide the catalyst for that growth.”
