The world’s largest field for natural gas, Shtokman Field in the Russian zone of the Barents Sea, is going to be extended, and in the Norwegian zone, another large gas field is in its final phase, with extensions to another field planned.
So far, fisheries and oil interests have been peaceful neighbors, but the hunt for oil and gas in the Barents Sea has geared up to such an extent this idyllic situation could crumble.
If users of this vast resource region don’t sit down soon and work things out, fisheries interests could be bulldozed.
