Researchers will identify how to reduce waste to realize cost savings and environmental benefits for businesses.
Chester-based C-Tech Innovation is to undertake the research on fish waste in partnership with the U.K. Sea Fish Industry Authority (Seafish) and Harris Interactive.
The new research, led by the government-funded programs Waste & Resources Action Program (Wrap) and Envirowise, will develop detailed “resource maps” to identify the amount of food and packaging waste generated by the seafood industry and where it occurs.
The project will detail the amount of water consumed and disposed of during processing.
