British Seafood’s legal challenge to the collection of levy on imported seafood went to the U.K.’s High Court in July but the verdict went in favor of Seafish.
Justice Hamblen ruled in Seafish’s favor over the claims made by British Seafood, awarding unpaid levies and costs to Seafish totaling £750,000 (€867,000/$1.2 million).
However, he allowed British Seafood to lodge an appeal to the verdict, which will mean the case returns to the Court of Appeal on Feb. 16 and 17, 2010, with a final decision due early March.
