Scottish and Grimsby MPs clashed in Westminster, London, this week over the European Commission’s stance on the ongoing mackerel dispute with Iceland and the Faroe Islands.

During a debate ahead of this week’s Fisheries Council (Dec. 18 and 19), Eilidh Whiteford, Scottish MP, said the Commission was proposing a "preposterous solution" by calling for a cut in the mackerel total allowable catch (TAC) over and above the 15 percent recommended by the International Council for the Exploration of the Sea (ICES) to compensate for overfishing by Iceland and Norway.
