The Alaska Department of Fish an Game and the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS) on Monday announced a total allowable catch (TAC) for the 2014-2015 Bristol Bay red king crab season of just over 9.9 million pounds, a 16.1 percent increase over last year, when the harvest was 8.6 million pounds.

Of this year's TAC, over 8.9 million pounds were allocated to individual fishing quota (IFQ) harvesters, and the remaining 998,600 pounds to Community Development Quota (CDQ) fisheries.

The increase is the second year of double-digit TAC increases; last year's quota was an 18 percent increase over 2012.

The
