The peak for the Bristol Bay salmon fishery appears to have happened -- boats only landed 1.02 million fish on Tuesday -- but experts say there's still plenty of fish to haul.

"It looks like the peak has come and gone," said Alaska Department of Fish and Game (ADF&G) Naknek area biologist Travis Elison told IntraFish. "But we still might exceed the forecast."

ADF&G estimated 16.5 million fish would be harvested in Bristol Bay this season.

Sue Aspelund, executive director of of the Bristol Bay Regional Seafood Development Association, told IntraFish there's excitement in the fleet with the total catch at more than 12 million fish and no signs of harvests slowing as quickly as they did last year.
