Director Even Softeland of SalmoBreed said he's convinced the trend is toward fewer fish breeding companies in Europe.
“I don’t think there’s room for all the breeding companies including the various breeding materials,” Softeland told IntraFish.
“There’s a definite dividing line between companies that have a complete family program with research and development, disease testing, security and spreading of risk, and those don’t have any of that.”
Softeland said in 2003-2004, the industry witnessed forceful internationalization on the ova side, as markets such as Scotland and Chile opened up.
