IntraFish featured two news items Monday that should sound warning bells with players in the seafood industry. The article on breastfeeding German mothers that warns against eating halibut and tuna, and the article about the mass escape of salmon from a Marine Harvest farm, are both cases that could hurt the industry’s reputation.
German authorities are not happy about the indefensible levels of mercury found in halibut and tuna. Mercury can harm the unborn child and authorities are warning pregnant women and breastfeeding mothers against eating these fish.
