Brothers Esben and Trond Helland, along with Geir Hamre and Ove Kvalheim, are behind the company. The research was started in 1997 by testing if it was safe to farm scallops commercially in fenced areas on the seabed. One goal was to document and find out how much the percentage of waste in scallop farming could be reduced.

Helland Skjell’s research shows that an acceptable waste percentage has been reached for scallop farming. "We are now increasing the production," Ove Kvalheim told IntraFish.
