When it comes to meat, Brazil is one of the world’s dominant powers. Sao Paulo-based JBS, the world’s largest beef producer, reported sales of $34.9 billion (€24.2 billion) and net income of $198 million (€137.4 million) for 2010 and employs 125,000 people worldwide. The company is also active in chicken and pork processing and has made several high profile acquisitions in recent years, including the 2007 $225 million (€156.1 million) purchase of U.S. firm Swift & Company, the third beef and pork processor in the United States at the time.
