United States imports of Chilean farmed Atlantic salmon fillets are estimated to reach historical average this year, according to recently released data from the National Marine Fisheries Service (NMFS), but industry experts say the increased demand in Brazil signals big changes in market value.

Chile exported 11 percent more salmon worldwide from January to August over the same time the previous year and although US imports of the fish are up 30.5 percent, Brazil’s imports have more than doubled, according to industry sources.
