Brazilian producers are crying out against government plans to scrap their newly created Ministry of fisheries and aquaculture (MPA).
Such a move would set the cause of the industry back to the state in which it was before June 2009, when the MPA was first created, industry players told IntraFish.
If the plans -- which are part of government austerity measures to cut costs -- go ahead, the MPA will be folded and its portfolio integrated into the Ministry of Agriculture.
This could happen as soon as next year if the move is not thwarted successfully.
