The scientific committee of the North Pacific Fishery Management Council earlier this month recommended the council adopt a maximum allowable bilogical catch (ABC) of 813,000 metric tons, down from 815,000 metric tons this year.
"Although the surveys came out below the expected level this summer, we are still very optimistic that our APO stocks are healthy, and that this is the best-managed fishery in the world," Bodal told IntraFish.
