Iceland saw its haddock and saithe fisheries become certified to the Iceland Responsible Fisheries certification program, a Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) and International Organization for Standardization (ISO) model-based eco-certification.
This certification is important to the Icelandic fishing industry and confirms that industry meets market demands for the sustainable harvesting of renewable resources, said Gunnar Tómasson, chairman of the Iceland Responsible Fisheries Foundation (IRFF).
