A giant bluefin tuna sold at a Japanese auction for less than the record-breaking sum paid last year amid concerns over soaring prices for fish, reported The Standard.
The 230-kilogram bluefin tuna was purchased at the Tsukiji market's first auction of the year for JPY 7.36 million (€51,735/$70,411), significantly down from the JPY 155.4 million (€1.1 million/$1.5 million) paid for a 222-kilogram fish last year -- slipping below JPY 10 million (€70,292/$95,667) for the first time in five years,
Bluefin is usually the most expensive fish available at Tsukiji, the biggest fish and wholesale seafood market in the world.
