The Peterhead midwater trawler Pathway returned to her home port Saturday morning to land the first shot of blue whiting from the 2014 season for human consumption following a five day trip to grounds west of Ireland.

With a more settled period of weather forecast, more landings of blue whiting into north-east Scotland were expected for later this week.

Although Norwegian midwater trawlers started to fish blue whiting in International waters over 200 miles south-west of Ireland four weeks ago, a number of Russian factory trawlers -- Pathway, together with Kings Cross, Lunar Bow, Challenge and Taits -- were held back until the beginning of March before making the two-day steam to fish alongside Irish vessels.
