US fish farming group Blue Ridge Aquaculture is spending $40 million to expand its facility in Virginia and build a new facility on the west coast, but that's not all it's doing, said Bill Martin, the company president.

Martin told IntraFish both facilities will be adding shrimp production as well.

Expanding to 6.5 million pounds annually, the company will also farm 10,000 pounds of shrimp indoors. If successful, both sites will produce roughly 1 million pounds per year.

"Volume-wise, shrimp has the most opportunity," Martin said.
